Ann Arbor was founded in 1824
Ann Arbor is home to the University of Michigan which was established on August 26, 1817. It was moved to Ann Arbor from Detroit in 1837 onto 40 acres. Its motto is “Arts, Knowledge, Truth”.
Since its establishment in Ann Arbor, the flagship university campus has expanded to include more than 584 major buildings with a combined area of more than 780 acres spread out over Central Campus and North Campus, two satellite campuses in Flint and Dearborn, and a Center in Detroit with over 46,000 students. The university is a founding member of the Association of American Universities.
